Interceptive
A common request we receive is how to make a smile whiter and brighter. This is a relatively simple and quick treatment option that can be performed periodically. Certain foods and beverages, such as wine and coffee, stain the teeth and contribute to discoloration. The teeth whitening process provides a solution that lightens the shade of the teeth. Additionally, the process actually rids the teeth of plaque and tartar that tend to lead to dental problems.

Early Corrective
Some bad bite problems need to be addressed as soon as they are detected and an early correction is very beneficial because it intercepts a problem that if left untreated could become progressively much more complicated, some even leading to facial asymmetries with notorious esthetic concerns. These are called orthopedic appliances and are usually combined with braces used in children (2×4).

Braces (2×4)
The braces that are used in children are known as 2×4 because they are placed on the four incisors and two back molars both in the upper and the lower arches. This system allows for tooth movement and correction of problems like crowding, lack of space due and shifting due to early loss of baby teeth.

Teeth Whitening
Tooth whitening procedures are also a great complement to an orthodontic treatment, as they can reinforce the looks of a great smile. These procedures can also be done either as an in-office one hour appointment (sometimes more than one session may be necessary), or with take-home kits with specific instructions. On either one, our patients receive a very special price and/or discount.

Braces For Teens
This is by far the most popular treatment in middleschoolers. At around 12 yrs of age, the majority of the adult teeth have come in, and many times form what is called a malocclusion, or bad bite. Full braces are often need, in combination with other appliances to correct the many types and shapes of problems that can appear. These are not easy times for kids, but the best esthetic results come from this group, with notorious changes is appearance, demeanor and self-confidence.

Clear Braces
Adult patients can obtain big and notorious benefits from orthodontic treatment, both esthetically and functionally. The esthetic changes can almost always be visible in the front teeth with correct alignment and harmonious smiles that can be complemented with whitening and/or esthetic enhancement procedures. The functional benefits are also very important, but sometimes very subjective, individualized and less evident. Orthodontics can offer patients better mastication, improvement in occlusion and certain TMJ conditions, better access to oral hygiene, or provide better conditions for general or specialized dental work by the general dentist or specialist in Prosthodontics in the purpose of restoring dentitions that have suffered losses or extractions. Many times, treatments of adult patients involve several different dental specialties and must be coordinated.

Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are clear and removable plastic appliances that can be used to treat many different types of problems of teeth alignment and bite, including minor relapses of previous orthodontic treatment. They have to be worn full-time to produce the expected results, so patient cooperation is essential.
With the incorporation of our new 3D digital scanner that we use in our office, it increases precision and reduces time in the fabrication and fit of these appliances.
Treatments with clear aligners rely on sophisticated software that the Orthodontist uses to plan and programs tooth movements in conjunction with technicians. Actual treatments consist of a series of clear trays that are used in each arch separately and during a specified period of time.
Ask our staff about this exciting technology and if you are interested in speeding up your treatment!

Metal Braces
Many adult patients are being treated today with regular metallic braces either for short esthetic treatments that generally involve only the upper front six teeth or for complex, comprehensive treatments that normally lead to implants or restorative dentistry to replace missing teeth. Many adults prefer not to show a metal smile and prefer the alternative of clear ceramic braces or invisible aligners.
Ceramic brackets are tooth color appliances that can be used instead of the regular metallic braces and produce the same type of efficient tooth movements. They are used in conjunction with esthetic wires and ligatures mostly in adult patients. They are not visible from a certain distance and are a good alternative for patients who do not want to show metal in their mouths or have some type of allergy to metals.

Surgical Orthodontics
Surgical orthodontics, also called orthognathic surgery, is used for severe cases of bad bites, jaw bone abnormalities, and malocclusions. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is considered a dental specialty and helps complex cases involving the mouth, jaw, face, and skull. If your case requires surgical orthodontics, your orthodontist will work with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to provide you with the best and most comprehensive care possible.
Surgical orthodontics helps patients improve their bites, though it can also help with other aesthetic concerns, such as facial structure and symmetry. Surgery can only be completed after the jaw is finished growing. This typically happens by age sixteen for females and age eighteen for males.

Traditional Braces
Even though there are many types of braces, traditional braces are still the most popular option. Great strides in technology have been made since they were first used, so they are becoming more comfortable and effective.
Traditional braces use stainless steel brackets and archwires to move your teeth into their proper position. Many teenagers like to decorate their braces with different colored rubber bands to give them a colorful and unique smile. You can choose a new color (or colors) during every adjustment!

Laser
Many times a soft-tissue laser procedure is ideal after an orthodontic treatment in order to reduce the size of overgrown gingival tissue. It can become an ideal complement to perfectly aligned teeth in the search for harmony and esthetics. We recently acquired a state of the art laser equipment, and Dr. Zagarra is a certified practitioner.

Esthetic Evaluation
When an orthodontic treatment is finished, the teeth are where they should be. However, their appearance can be enhanced or complemented with certain procedures which can be done in our office if minor, or in the general dentist’s if extensive. Chipped or worn down tooth edges can be repaired with minor composite build-ups that can greatly enhance the way they look. The shape of certain teeth can also be changed for a more esthetic look.

TMJ Treatment
Certain conditions that involve the TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular-Joint) and masticatory muscles can be intercepted or treated adequately with the use of relaxing splints. After a clinical examination, Dr. Zagarra and his associates can detect if a patient’s condition can respond favorably to this type of therapy and the treatment coordinator will guide the patient towards this treatment modality.
